Men’s Volleyball Falls on Irvine for the second consecutive night – The Stanford Daily

In a highly competitive men’s volleyball match between No. 6 UC Irvine (19-10) and No. 9 Stanford (14-12), the cardinal fell into three straight sets. The match on Saturday night came after Stanford had already had a loss of anteater the night before.

The first set began as a narrow competition, with Stanford holding a slight advantage at the beginning. This advantage is partly due to Stanford’s strategy to roll the ball over the net. The cardinal works to maintain a narrow lead, binding Ervin repeatedly before losing its edge to 17 points. The antithers kept their lead as the set approached its conclusion. With Ervine at Set Point for several rallies, Stanford struggles from 19-24 to a tense 23-24. In the end, however, Irvine provided the kit.

At the beginning of the second set, both teams struggled to win a significant lead. Five ties appeared on the set within the first eight points for each team. As the match was progressing, Ervine began to pull forward, winning the lead by 9-8 and keeping it until the end of the set. Despite Stanford’s efforts in the middle of the set, including a few impressive killings, Evrene took the set 25-18.

In the third set, Stanford came out strong. Although Irvine reacted with his points, the cardinal kept an early lead in his first four points. Once again, the teams exchanged connections throughout the set. Stanford took control of 12 points, maintaining its advantage with a combination of killings and errors in Irvine. The Antothens left, but remained at a striking distance.

When the set reached its culmination, Ervine struggles to tie the score at 23. Then the leading lead 24-23. However, Stanford pulled back and reached a certain point at 25-24. The intense exchange continued, with both teams holding numerous points of matches. In a particularly stressful rally, Ervine initially won the Game Point, but Stanford successfully challenged the call to tie the score at the 29-29-13th equality of the set. After a firm battle, Stanford eventually fell 33-31.

Despite the loss, the Cardinal made valiant efforts in his attempt to regain his lead through each set. Junior External striker Theo Snie led Stanford with 15 strokes and .350 percent of hitting. The average blocker of freshman Reed Waynerait was walking the team with six blocks. Next, Stanford will face No. 7 Hawaii University in Manoa (23-7) in Honolulu.
