BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Belmont University men’s tennis team closed out its weekend in Birmingham, Ala., on Sunday at Samford University’s CCB Collegiate Invitational. Despite falling in both doubles finals, the Bruins earned a consolation win in the junior singles match Esunge Ndumbe in the top singles draw.
The final day of play at The Country Club of Birmingham wraps up Belmont’s fall tournament schedule.
“Doubles was difficult today as we gave ourselves chances, especially Charlie and Esunge, but we couldn’t find a way,” said the head coach Jeff Cerro. “All credit to North Alabama and their guys who played very well, conceded the big points and capitalized on a solid game. Overall, it was our best doubles performance yet and I’m excited to see what we can do in the spring, both with these guys and the new faces coming in.”
Ndumbe highlighted the day with a win over third-seeded Lachlan Brain of North Alabama, a first-team All-Atlantic Sun Conference selection last year, in the blue singles draw.
