Men’s Tennis Kit to open the home on Sunday against Prairie View A & M – UTRGV ATHLETICS

Rio Grande Valley – After three weeks on the road and played his first seven games away from home, the men’s tennis team at the University of Texas Rio Grande (UTRGV) is excited to compete in the Orville Cox’s tennis center on Sunday.

Vaqueros (1-6, 0-0 Southland Conference) will play the opening home opening at 1:00 pm against Prairie View A & M (Pvamu) Panthers (0-10, 0-0 Southwestern athletic conference). The match is part of a two -headed women’s teams from both universities and will be played at the end of the 10 -hour women’s match. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

UTRGV holds a 21-1 record for all time against the Panthers and won three in a row in the series. Last season, these teams met at Prairie View and Vaqueros returned home with 7-0. UTRGV won two in a row by cleaning against the panthers. Pvamu’s lone victory in the series came in a narrow 4-3 games in Edinburgh in 2021.

Vaqueros played a challenging schedule in the first month of the season, including the opening of the spring campaign in No. 1 Texas. They have played difficult opponents more virtually than the last results and have learned a lot about their styles and levels of the game during the first seven games.

UTRGV enters this competition with some inertia after playing Texas Tech Close and winning 4-3 against Lubbock Christian. Although the Panthers come without victorious, eight of their losses are for three teams, with four coming in consecutive matches against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
