ADVICE
The Lubbock Christian men’s basketball team will take on the St. Cloud State at 1:30pm Saturday at First United Bank Center in the D2CCA Tipoff Classic. LCU is coming off a season-opening 40-point win against Missouri Western on Friday. The Chaps shot 65 percent from the arc in the win and had assists on 20 of their 35 field goals.
FIVE THINGS TO FOCUS ON
1 | Three Chaparrals finished in double figures in Friday’s dominant win, led by Ty Caswell with 18. It’s the most points Caswell has scored in a game since February 29, 2020, when he scored 20 against Western New Mexico – his freshman year.
2 | Lubbock Christian is trying to start the season 2-0 for the first time since the 2021-22 season when they won their first 20 games of the year. Each of the last two seasons, the Chaps have split their opening weekend games.
3 | This will be the first game of St. Cloud State for the 2024-25 season. The Huskies were picked to finish ninth in the NSIC preseason poll. They finished last season 12-17 overall and 8-14 in conference play.
4 | The Chaps held the Griffons to 27.8 percent shooting (15-54) on Friday. It was the lowest field goal percentage in a single game by a Lubbock Christian opponent since Jan. 22, 2021, when they held Texas A&M International to 23.5 percent shooting (12-51).
5 | Lubbock Christian got roughly 41 percent of its 88 points in the season opener from rookies. Amondo Miller Jr scored 16 points to lead the rookies while Alex Anamekue and Jalen Thompson added seven each. Thompson also led the Chaps in rebounds with seven.
