MDOT is intended to end the delays on the train on Fort Street – WDET

MDOT is intended to end the delays on the train on Fort Street – WDET

Before President Joe Biden left the White House, the Federal Railway Administration approved nearly $ 74 million to troubleshoot a repetitive traffic problem in Trenton.

The Ministry of Transport in Michigan plans to use the money to separate the rail tracks from the sidewalk of Fort Street (M-85) north of Van Horn Road.

Why is this happening?

Adam Pensenler manages the Mdot Transport Services Center in Taylor. He says that a dozen trains intersect every day, often slowing down traffic.

“You have many people who live and work in this area,” he says. “Removing these delays will be a great benefit to the community.”

Penzenstadler says the project will also guarantee that trains do not stop emergency vehicles, trying to get a trauma to the Corewell Health 2 trauma in Trenton.

“Separation of this assessment will improve emergency services in the area and significantly improve the response time,” he says.

What is the plan?

MDOT has two options: Build a bridge over the tracks or run the highway under them.

Penzenstadler says that the leaders and residents of the community will have the word in the project.

“We will explore it and see what is the best option for this site, what makes the biggest meaning and what has the most benefits for the area,” he says.

Penzenstadler says it will take about four years to design, build and complete the project.

Mdot has done this type of work before. Spokesman Michael Fresell says the state has divided two Line Farm crossings near Michigan State University.

“You had stadiums where you would have football and basketball games, so trains that pass there would cause delays to the people who fall into the campus,” says Fresel.

Will the money be there?

As Mdot secured his money before President Donald Trump’s second term begins, Fresell says it’s too early to say if FRA will cancel it.

The new Trump transport secretary Sean Duffy said the federal government would prioritize projects in areas with a high birth and marriage.

The US Census Bureau says Trenton’s marriage and the married couples’ household rates are slightly higher than national average. The average family size in the city is almost 3 people.
