McAvoy to receive a prize for an outstanding contribution of the Film Festival in Hometown – Irvine Times

In film, television and stage productions covering careers, McAvoy’s most famous roles include Dr. Nikola Garrgan in the 2006 movie “The Last King of Scotland” and as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men blockbuster.

The 45-year-old actor is ready to receive the Cinema City Honorary Award-Created in 2004 to recognize the filmmakers who have made an outstanding contribution to this year’s Glasgow Film Festival (GFF).

The festival also includes an event for sale in conversations with McAvoy, where he will look back to a 20-year career, which led him from Glasgow to the heights of the Hollywood star.

The event will be followed by a special check of his breakthrough role in the last King of Scotland, introduced by Macavoy himself.

Last year, the opening award for the Cinema City honorary award went to the Lord of the Rings Viggo Mortensen star.

The award is named by the nickname given to Glasgow in 1930, when the city was home to more cinemas per person than anywhere else in the UK.

Other stars with big names to attend Gff 2025 include Ed Harris and Jessica Lange, who will premiere the United Kingdom of their new movie The Long Day, and the 1917 actor George Maque, who returns to the festival with Scottish premiere of post-apocalyptic musical, The End.

GFF will be held at the Glasgow Film Theater (GFT) and seats across the city from February 26 to March 9, with a program including 13 world and European premieres, 66 United Kingdom premieres and 12 Scottish premieres from 38 countries.

GFF is one of the leading film festivals in the UK and is managed by Glasgow Film, a charity that also runs GFT.

It is supported by Screen Scotland, a BFI audience project, awarding national lottery funding, Glasgow Life and Eventscotland.
