Mayor President Sid Edwards to return the BRPD awards retired officers and double criminal stoppers – unfilled with kiran

Baton Rouge-in an attempt to take the “problem of crime” in the parish of East Baton Rouge, Mayor Sid Edwards has fulfilled his promise for his campaign by introducing two new initiatives.

“I think it’s obvious to everyone, we have a problem. I’m worried about Baton Rouge. I am worried about the well -being and safety of our citizens. And let’s admit it, this is one of the reasons to run for this position, “Edwards said.

The first is to return BRPD retired officers.

“Last year, the legislature adopted a bill, Bill 15 of the Chamber, which allows us to redirect the police officers from Baton Rouge without a penalty for retirement retirement, so they receive a check and they can return to work for us,” said Former BRPD Police Chief and current Public Safety Transition Jeff Ledf. “I have seen everything that can die, die in this community in my career as a police officer. It’s time to stop. “

BRPD’s Chief TJ Morse added that BRPD retirees will return part -time and will be able to work up to 29 hours a week at approximately $ 40 per hour. Final funding has not yet been smoothed.

“They will not be there that respond to calls or something. They will be able to help us in many ways that our workforce is lacking in support services, cold cases, our real -time crime center and just lithaf from places in the department. That will do many things for us, “said Chief Morse. “We can bring them back just like those senior officers to mentor our younger officers.”

The next initiative revolves around the increase in the money of the remuneration for crimes of crimes to double the prize to $ 10,000 when paying off. It will be called “the first impetus to 48 awards”.

Crime stoppers are currently paying up to $ 2,500 per case of killings and up to $ 5,000 for many killings. Now, however, if an advisor calls and their advice leads to the arrest of a suspect, the award will double up to $ 5,000 for one murder and up to $ 10,000 for multiple killings.

Again and again, 48 hours are the most important in resolving the murder. That is why this initiative has started in the hope of increasing the advice within the first 48 hours, luring people with knowledge of crime, with money.

“There are a million ways to attack this problem with crime. This is just one of them, but today we wanted to unfold it. Baton Rouge, this is your Baton Rouge. We need your help. We are just trying to keep our citizens and our children, “Edwards said.
