Colombia, SC (Wach) – South Carolina executes Marion Bauman, Jr., the third prisoner to die from the hands of the state as the executions resumed in September 2024.
The 44 -year -old Bauman was performed through a deadly injection around 6:27 pm on January 31 at the Broca River Correctional Institution.

Despite petitions from criminal groups against death, Bauman does not seek pardon from South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster.
Bauman was executed for the murder in 2001 by 21-year-old Kanda Martin. Martin was shot in the head and her body was found in the trunk of a car that was set on fire.
On December 27, Bauman’s lawyers filed a complaint, arguing that his lawyer in the case was under -prepared and showed too much sympathy for the victim.

Bauman’s family members and friends also testified against him as part of a legal basis agreement.
Bauman claims that his lawyer Norbert Cummings has repeatedly pressed him to plead guilty of a crime, which he insisted that he did not commit.
In a four -page letter, Bauman stated that he has known the victim, Kanda Martin for years and has been selling his drugs from time to time.
Candy and I were friends from elementary school. She was a year older than I and a white girl, but it never mattered to us. She will remain in our house when needed, and even we threatened that she hangs with us. We also sometimes got hooked.
Candy was dependent and I am very sorry and sorry for my role in contributing to this. She was a friend of mine and I still took advantage of her addiction.
In the letter, Bauman maintained his innocence, stating that another man admitted that he had killed Martin while in prison. However, he claims that his lawyers have never called any of the witnesses to testify.
Just a few weeks ago, 59-year-old Richard Moore was executed by a deadly injection for the death of James Mahoni in 1999 in Spartanburg County.

Freddie Owens, 46, was executed by a deadly injection on September 20, marking the first execution in South Carolina after an unintentional 30-year break. Owens was to death for the 1997 murder of the Greenville Amenities Store.
There are currently 29 other prisoners in South Carolina as the state seems to perform one prisoner every six weeks.
