LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – The Marine Corps Reserve is once again collecting toys for children in need this holiday season.
Each year the group sets up donation boxes for new and unwrapped toys to be given out as Christmas gifts.
Guadalupe Alvarez, program coordinator, said this tradition began during World War II. “Last year we distributed toys to approximately 18,000 children. We started with 5,000 kids, and now we’re growing because we’re getting more popular,” Alvarez said. “However, this is just a drop in the bucket. If citizens find out that we are donating to children in need, the toys will stay in the community.”
