A young Glendale woman was killed on the side of US 60 in Mesa on Oct. 27 after she was struck by a vehicle driven by a man with a suspended license, police said.
Zoe Johnson, 23, and another person were standing in front of a vehicle around 8 a.m. on US 60 near Stapley Drive, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
A pickup truck traveling on the highway was changing lanes and failed to stay in the lane, traffic officials said. The pickup drifted to the right and hit the unoccupied vehicle and the two pedestrians.
According to DPS, Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene and the other person was taken to a hospital.
The driver of the pickup was identified by DPS as 45-year-old Nicholas Meyer of Apache Junction. He was not injured during the incident, the police said.
DPS told the Republic he was driving a Ford 150 pickup truck pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with machinery.
Meyer was booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Jail on two first-degree felony counts of causing death by operating a vehicle while driving while license suspended and causing serious bodily injury or death by traffic.
Before his death, Johnson had amassed nearly 30,000 followers on his TikTok account. She posts dirt bike riding videos.
Reports of Zoe’s age vary. Her social media accounts list her as 21, but DPS says she’s 23.
