A brother and sister from Southeast Virginia recently had a bad day after police say a thief grabbed their money jar while the siblings were selling lemonade.

The suspect was caught on camera last week stealing the children’s earnings for the day outside their home in Chesapeake, a town about 20 miles southeast of Virginia Beach.

Chesapeake Police Department Officer Leo S. Kosinsk, whose agency is investigating the case, told USA TODAY that the theft occurred shortly before noon on Aug. 14. Before the theft, Kosinski confirmed, a silver four-door Toyota sedan pulled up near the stand and the suspect got out of the vehicle.

Footage shows the suspect casually approaching the counter and quickly grabbing the jar of money.

“My back was turned so I didn’t understand”

Rebecca Caldwell, who is 10, told WAVY-TV that she and her brother, Josh, were standing at their booth when the suspect grabbed the jar of their money while she began pouring him a glass of lemonade.

“We already have $40. She looked pretty good and then the guy came,” the girl told the publication. “He was very well behaved. He was just like, “Okay, you guys are doing a lemonade stand.” And then he got pretty close, but I had my back turned, so I didn’t really get it.

Police said the children’s parents, Anetta and Josh Caldwell. filed a report after the man stole money from their young entrepreneurs.

Police describe the suspect as a white man in his 30s with a goatee and tattoos.

The video shows him wearing a hat, a gray t-shirt, a pair of blue or gray shorts and white tennis shoes.
