A Torrance man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old in North Long Beach in August, police said today.

Long Beach police say Ronald Guidry, 41, of Torrance, is responsible for the fatal shooting Aug. 4 in the 3300 block of 67th Street.

The 16-year-old boy had just been dropped off by a relative in the area around 2:40 p.m., according to authorities

He returned a short time later, police said, but was followed by a group of people.

At some point, someone starts shooting in the direction of the teenager and his relative. The teenager was hit in the upper and lower body by the gunfire before he was able to get into the car, and the relative drove off to call police, authorities said.

When officers arrived, they found the injured 16-year-old in the street, police said. He died on the spot, they added.

He was not identified because he is a juvenile, but police said he is from Bell.

The group of subjects who had followed the teenager back to the car had already fled the scene when officers arrived, police said.

But through their investigation, detectives learned the motive for the shooting was gang-related and identified Guidry as a suspect in the shooting, police said.

A gang-related crime is a crime committed for the benefit of, under the direction of, or in connection with any criminal street gang, according to the LBPD.

After a warrant was secured for Guidry’s arrest, officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department located him on Oct. 17 and took him into custody, police said.

“This arrest is an important step in securing justice for the young life lost to such a senseless crime,” said LBPD Chief Wally Hebisch. “Gang violence is not tolerated in our city and our department remains steadfast in its commitment to holding those involved accountable.”

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and we remain focused on continuing to make our neighborhoods safe for everyone.”

While serving additional warrants in Las Vegas, Moreno Valley, Rialto and Perris, authorities found evidence related to the shooting, according to police, who did not specify what evidence was found.

Guidry is now awaiting extradition to Los Angeles County, according to police. Police did not say what he will be tried or charged with once he arrives in Los Angeles County.

They also did not say if they were still looking for more suspects in the Aug. 4 shooting.
