Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – A man from Laredo returns to the United States after being extradited from Mexico to face numerous accusations, including crimes of murder and weapons.
39-year-old Jesus Guadalupe Kovarubias has been accused of participating in the shooting in 2022 of 32-year-old Daniel Ariyo outside a nightclub in Larendo. Authorities say he escaped to Mexico but was caught in January 2023. American marshals and other law enforcement agencies have worked for more than a year to return it.
Covarrubias also faces accusations of a gun illegally as a criminal, helps to buy weapons for others and give a gun to someone who is not allowed to have one. A big jury accused him and others on October 5, 2021.
Investigators said they watched a home in Laredo in August 2021, where Kovarubias and others were seen moving objects in and outside. Later, the officers saw three rifles moved from a truck to another house before making arrests.
Authorities said Kovarubias illegally has been buying and selling fire weapons since December 2019. The US Alcohol Bureau, tobacco, firearms and explosives has led the investigation with the Sheriff of the Web and Police Department of Laredo.
Covarrubias is expected to appear in court on February 24th. If convicted, he can face up to 10 years in prison for arms allegations, plus more time for the murder case.
The prosecution is only a charge and all the defendants are innocent until they are proven to be guilty of court.
