Maloof ends 75-year run in Lubbock, closing due to market challenges, keeping DFW store – LubbockOnline.com

After 75 years in business, a Lubbock fashion institution will begin its final sale this weekend, shifting focus to its Dallas-Fort Worth store.

Malouf’s, a Lubbock staple since 1949, is beginning the process of closing the store at 8201 Quaker Ave., Suite 130, the company said in a news release Monday. The family store, originally run by John B. Maloof until his death in 2015, was known for quality fashion, tailoring services, consulting and shopping.

“The high-end luxury business, post-Covid, has become more of a challenge in smaller markets,” said Tripp Gleghorn, store manager. “It’s a sad decision all around. We have a close-knit family here. At the end of the day, when you’re trying to run a business, you have to make a tough decision.”

Although no final business day has been selected, the final sale will begin on Thursday, October 31st. The sale will include clothing, accessories and store equipment. Mac Owen of Owen PR said the store will close once everything is sold. Owen expects “the store to close very soon this year,” he said in an email.

“It’s going to be an opportunity for people to come in and save before the holidays,” Gleghorn said. “We want to express our appreciation to our customers. Come and see us.’

Although the Lubbock store will close, it will not be the end of the Malouf’s brand, owned by one of John’s sons, Michael Malouf. The Southlake location at 190 State St. will continue to work.

The Maloof family will also continue to operate in Lubbock. DREST by Scott Malouf, 10305 Quaker Ave., #600, will continue as it enters its 15th year. Scott Maloof is the son of John Maloof and opened DREST with his wife, Karen, in October 2009. Their daughter, Marlowe Maloof Lawson, is the fourth generation luxury retailer in the family.

“We offer designer and contemporary clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories for men and women,” said Brady Longoria Thurman, Marketing for DREST. “We hope to invite all those who love Malouf’s to our store as we continue the Malouf legacy here in Lubbock.”
