Sioux Falls, SD (Dakota News now) – Post -General Luis Dejo has recently announced his intention to withdraw from his position at the post office after five years.
With Dejoy retreat, South Dakota post office workers received some of their desire after more than a year to return against the 10-year Delivery Plan for America. However, rumors of what comes the next, leave the future of USPS under doubt.
The US Postal Workman Union (APWU) Sioux Falls local vice president of 718 Mani Lopez is thinking of Dejoy’s term and in a statement to Dakota News now expressed appreciation for the efforts that Dejoy put in, although she disagrees with some of the changes.
“Mail Louis Dejo is the first prime minister of my career to set a plan to support USPS stabilization. Whether you have agreed to his vision or not, he was not afraid to update the equipment or poor working conditions of adult facilities. With the much-needed LLV replacement fleet, which only receives 8-10 MPG, he concluded the transaction for vehicles for the delivery of a new generation. I believe that consolidations are where the posture/package delays began, and Domino took place throughout the country and instead of trying to restore the mailing management, just expand/move the target for timely delivery. “
APWU President in South Dakota Todd West saw more positives than negatives in Luis Dejo, calling him to give up.
“You had someone there who was trying to make changes that I really think they really had no idea what he really was doing,” West said. “I want to say that you can see through the deterioration of the service in the last few months for what is happening.”
West, however, knows that Dejoy’s retreat creates uncertainty about whether the 10-year plan will continue and who will be the next USPS leader.
“It was what Trump had appointed and he would appoint another,” West said. “Will it be someone else who is well, Maybe he is [going to appoint someone new]S This is another story. “
West referred to rumors that President Donald Trump intends to privatize the post office, but they reappeared when he was in the oval office.
“Well, we want to have a post office that works well and does not lose huge money,” President Trump told reporters on Friday. “And we are thinking of doing this and it will be a form of merger.”
A possible merger would put a trade department responsible for the USPS. West said this would include the dismissal of the managers’ postal board.
APWU is concerned about the impact that merger can have on many aspects of what USPS provides to the public.
“He will create a bigger mess if he does,” West described. “If they had ever privatized it, it would be the ugliest mistake for the United States citizens for postage, service and everything.”
If the rumors are true, West said President Trump could sign a executive order this week, probably immediately after Monday or Tuesday.
Meanwhile, South Dakota Senator Mike Circles again introduced the legislation on Friday, he was previously sponsored to deal with the future of post -processing in rural areas.
The Postal Processing Act would add requirements to closing a facility. The bill was in response to the Delivery of America, but it could affect the decisions taken if the USPS is really privatized.
In a message, the senatorial circles explained why he returned this legislation and what the bill was intended to decide.
“Rural services by post are a rescue line for Southern Dakotani. We need to make sure that residents throughout our country are able to receive letters and packages in a timely manner. USPS is obliged to inspect the impact on rural residents when closing a retail site, so it is correct that they also take into account the impact on the processing facilities. ”
The West is in favor of the legislation introduced by circles and he said he evaluates the way in which the delegation of the South Dakota Congress supports their cause.
“I believe it’s a step forward,” West explained. “This is a way to help protect the South Dakota Post Office and Rural Communities throughout the United States. [The South Dakota delegation] He was very cooperative and very useful in trying to keep our mail as it is. “
