MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – A Wisconsin police department held an informational table at Northern Michigan University on Tuesday.
The Madison Police Department will participate in the university’s career fair on Wednesday.
Madison police also offered students the opportunity to take a written test, giving them a head start on the lengthy hiring process.
Jesse Ludtke, an officer with the Madison Police Department and an NMU graduate, said the Madison Police Department is looking for students of all backgrounds. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography.
“We’re looking for a variety of people willing to work,” Luedke said. “Outgoing, very social people, willing to talk to people in the community but from different backgrounds.”
If accepted, the Madison Police Department hosts its own police academy and pays applicants while they train. Most other agencies require people to go through a police academy.
Luedke encourages students who came to Marquette for the outdoors to consider Madison as a place to live and work. She said Madison, while large, has a small-town feel and plenty of outdoor activities in the surrounding area.
