Jimenez Y friends, the popular Mexican/barbecue restaurant of Lubbock, has been a local hotspot of Foodie for years. This week, its popularity will grow with the title “Best in the US”

According to USA Today’s Restaurant of the Year on USA Today, this is mostly a standing room, to-go Eatery is one of the first 44 places to eat in America.

“It’s wild to see, being one of the first in the country,” says Michael Flores, one of the family members who run the restaurant. “It’s been just a blurry over the past few years. We didn’t expect any of it. It’s incredible.”

What drives a chimenese and friends to stand out

Their restaurant began in 1969 when Lucio Himenenes discovered the first Himenez Bakery & Restaurant in Lubbock, which for the first time focused on cookies known as Pan Dulce. In the 1980s, Lucio’s wife presented her family recipes in Gisado. Although the business has moved, Lucio’s family maintains the inheritance lively through his children (Maria Flores and Lucio Jimenez Jr.), grandchildren (Mark Jimenez and Michael Flores) and great-grandchildren (Mark Himenes and Aiden M.).

Each of the family members has a specialty: Maria and Lucio focus on Gisado; Mark deals with breakfast; Michael makes the barbecue; Aiden works on tortillas; And most customers recognize Marcus, who runs the front. Everyone helps when needed and guarantees that every dish that comes out meets the standards of the family.

The barbecue is a very recent addition from Michael and is only served on weekends. Barbacoa smoked is the most popular, with approximately 120-180 pounds served weekly. Michael also recommended a sausage with a hot connection made in a house.

What to order at Himnez Y Friends

Stewed burrito. Breakfast (or lunch) of the champions. This nine-inch tortilla flour is filled with the choice of Carne Guisada or Asado, the matching sauce and beans. Then this beast of Burito is garnished with homemade Queso before being inserted into the take -off box along with the tortilla chips and salsa. A fried egg can and should be added as a topping. Not only is it the size of Texas, but it is juicy, cheeky, meat and the best way to start a weekend.

Taco. Carne Guisada Taco, Brisket Taco and Picadillo Taco leave a restaurant. And they are all delicious. Corn tortillas are even made fresh internal. No matter who you try, take the chips to complete the residual sauce.

Marble cake: This white and red vortex frozen cake has the consistency of the cake with angelic food. This is a soft bite with the right amount of sweetness. A customer loves him so much that he buys a sheet of him and delivered him so he can freeze him later.

Side note: The special ones over the weekend usually have a first -class barbecue, which is juicy, gentle and just delicious. Follow Jimenes on Social Media to see what is for a special order, along with any fun challenges. In the past, people can sing lines of a particular song, quote a movie, or answer a question about the little things for an additional deal. The restaurant is also united with other local companies, including breweries, for pop -up events.
