CANYON, Texas (Nov. 2, 2024) – The Lubbock Christian men’s basketball team scored 20 points off the bench in a 69-56 loss to the Saint Cloud State Huskies on Saturday at First United Bank Center.
The Chaparrals (1-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Amondo Miller Jrwho had 16 points. Miller is the only Chap to score in double figures in both games this season.
Sean Murphy added a double-double off the bench with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Aaron Gonzalez added five points and three steals.
Lubbock Christian recorded 42 rebounds in Saturday’s game compared to St. Cloud State’s 36, led by Murphy’s 11 rebounds. The Chaparrals also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 17 rebounds into 10 second-chance points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lubbock Christian stormed out of the gate trailing 40-22 at halftime. A day after shooting 8-for-9 from behind the arc, LCU made just two of its 11 three-point attempts in Saturday’s opening period.
SCSU, meanwhile, was 6-11 on 3-pointers and 16-30 using efficient shooting to widen the gap.
Chap’s offense was more noticeable after the break and they were able to cut the deficit to 12, but St. Cloud State continued to shoot well and eventually extended the advantage to 69-45.
LCU closed the game on an 11-0 run, capped by a 3-pointer by Miller Jr.

» Sean Murphy recorded a double-double for the Chaparrals with 14 points and 11 rebounds. This is his first as a Chaparral. He had six last season at Nebraska-Kearney.
» Lubbock Christian lost despite a 42-36 rebounding advantage.
» 17 of LCU’s rebounds came on the offensive glass. It’s their most offensive tackles in a single game since Nov. 19, 2016, when they recorded 18 against Sul Ross.
» LCU shot 16 percent from behind the arc in the loss, their worst percentage since Feb. 2, 2023, when they were 1-for-16 (.063). That game was also at the First United Bank Center.
