Lubbock audiologist offers tips on how to protect your hearing – KCBD

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – As fall brings lively crowds and concerts to the Southern Plains, the risk to hearing health increases.

October is National Protect Your Hearing Month, a time to focus on preventing noise-induced hearing loss.

Dr. Gina Collins, MD, Audiologist, emphasizes the need for regular hearing screenings.

“We have to monitor our hearing every year, which is something we do great as kids, but as adults we just put it aside,” she said.

To protect hearing, keep TV and music volume below 60% of maximum and follow the “60/60” rule – take breaks after an hour of loud music.

Being aware of signs of hearing loss, such as difficulty speaking, is crucial. Simple settings, such as using volume limiters on your smartphone, can also help protect your hearing.
