LPD addresses cooperation with federal agencies – KGNS

Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – Larendo Police Department turns to how it collaborates with federal immigration agencies such as ice and border patrol.

This is against the backdrop of a national debate, with some police departments refusing to share information about undocumented immigrants with the federal authorities.

The head of the police in Laredo, Miguel Rodriguez, has confirmed that the department is already maintaining working relations with agencies such as HSI, ice and border patrol.

However, he explains that implementation of immigration is not a top PD priority, emphasizing that their focus remains elsewhere. “When we talk about officers who go out there and want immigration status, we respond to over 385,000 calls a year. Will we have time? This is almost impossible. We have to look a lot in these things and these situations. ”

Rodriguez added: “When the question is asked if we will cooperate with them, we have already cooperated all this time. Every time we stop someone and know they are here illegal. ”

He continued to say that they would need more training under the immigration law in order to apply it properly.
