CARSON CITY, Nev. (COLO) – Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has activated a limited contingent of the Nevada National Guard to support local law enforcement on Election Day.
60 Guard members will be on standby and stationed at Nevada National Guard facilities in Carson City and Las Vegas.
They will be present for things like traffic control, building security and to coordinate and facilitate communication across the country if more support is needed.
“After consulting with stakeholders across the state, I have decided that pre-emptive activation of the National Guard makes sense at this time. We do not anticipate that these personnel will need to be deployed,” Lombardo said. “As a first responder, I know firsthand how important it is to be prepared, and this decision reflects my commitment to safety and preparedness on Election Day. As always, I am deeply grateful to the men and women of our National Guard and appreciate their service to our state and country.
Election day is November 5.
