Baton Rouge, La. (BRPRoud)-The position of the new Mississippi River Bridge will not be chosen until mid-2025, according to civil servants of transport.
Road Area Road and Bridge District have talked about partnerships for funding and stakeholders about the future construction of the bridge during Tuesday, December 16, a public meeting. The Ministry of Development and Transport of Louisiana Joe Donku said that the potential place on the bridge and the price were in the air.
The public expressed strong concerns about the location of the site. The final area is in the parish of Ibervil, with three possible places between plakemin and St. Gabriel. Some residents have sparked environmental concerns in the area, saying that it would have to be built through many wetlands.
“All these things are typical, especially in Louisiana, where we have many wetlands and this is just one type of impact that must be taken into account in the NEPA process to determine what the best location of the project will be, – – Donahu said.

He said these meetings are important to learn how the community is felt about location, adding that feedback can help employees carefully plan the process and deal with problems and possible construction problems.
One of the goals of this new bridge project is to reduce traffic jams from the original bridge and the surrounding interstate. Donahu said the impact of traffic would be definitely where you were driving, but with the new bridge the possibility of a fee could go into play.
“To take advantage of the I-10 congestion. I will say that you need to have either a really low fee or no fees so that you can divert a little traffic from the main line I-10, “he said.
