LSU Gymnast Livvy Dunne has quite a following on social media. But she finds that doesn’t translate into attending gymnastics, a college-level meet.

Today, Dunn took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her frustration with the lack of attendance at recent gymnastics meets, as she’s seen in her own experience as well as on telecasts.
“I’m sitting here watching NCAA gymnastics and the empty seats are concerning,” Dunn wrote, suggesting that the taller windows are analyzing what works to build an audience. “I care deeply about the growth of women’s sports, especially in the NCAA. If you want fans to enjoy the sport and increase viewership, you need to look at what makes the crowds go crazy! People understand what a perfect 10 is and want people who make things that look great to be rewarded. ”
Dunn continued by addressing concerns about the NCAA’s scoring process, which she said have been raised by several fans. The gymnast and Megainfluencer believes the rating process deters fans from showing up and tuning in.
“Too many discretionary deductions feels the same as watching a basketball game constantly interrupted by penalties or a football game with flags on every play,” Dunn said. “At some point it feels negative and it loses the fun factor that draws the crowd. The number of questions I’m currently getting from fans about the rating is significant enough for me to share this concern. I love the art and complexity of gymnastics, but let’s take a closer look at the sport! “
She wrote a follow-up post advocating not only for herself, but also for other female athletes at other universities.
“This isn’t about LSU, this is about sports,” Dunn said. “I’m in my 5th year and I have an audience of casual fans, so maybe I’m in a unique position to see what’s going on with fans in a different way than people who just look at attendance numbers. Fans are confused. I also spend time raising money for female athletes and will always advocate for athletes. Making changes that may affect the value of entertainment will affect athletes financially. Women’s sports in the NCAA must focus on building crowd engagement to continue to receive revenue support for athletes. “

Dunn’s posts come as she was in New York celebrating her boyfriend — Pittsburgh Pirates Paul Skees — receiving his National League Rookie of the Year Jackie Robinson Award at the BBWAA Awards Dinner in New York. Earlier today, the superstar couple strolled through Central Park.
But even in the big city, Dunn can’t help but keep his mind on the mat.
