Leon County Committee to focus on affordable dwellings at Retreat

Leon County Committee to focus on affordable dwellings at Retreat

The Leon County Commission will meet for the first time in the new year of the retreat meeting and the committee next week – and it seems that the largest topic will be an accessible housing.

The Council is planned to meet on January 27 for their annual withdrawal, which sees them pass through their strategic plan and on January 28 for a regular committee meeting.

The accessible home was a hot topic after a long meeting in November, where the Ministry of Justice of the capital (CAJM) called on the Commission to do more on the matter. He is also in the minds of Leon County Commissioner David O’Kife, who wrote a column on the subject.

While the reports and updates on the work of the Housing for Homes at affordable prices will be given to the Commission at both meetings, it is not yet known how the board will direct the staff, if at all.

Committee to hear a CAJM report

As part of the agenda on Tuesday and as a result of the meeting in November, the Council will listen to a report based on the CAJM proposal and the efforts of Leon County to raise homes at affordable prices.

CAJM, a multi -glittering advocacy group, packed the chambers of the District Committee in November. Its members asked employees to return an element of the agenda, considering the possibility of creating and financing a land acquisition and redemption program modeled by one in Pinellas County, which stimulates apartment housing at affordable prices to separate more units for Low -income families.

While affordable housing is a major priority for the group, their demand at first glance was reinforced after reporting by Talahassi’s democrat, saying that over 1000 students in Leon’s school district were homeless. Since then, they have taken care to bring out this point at their annual NEHEMIAH meeting.

According to the agenda, CAJM specifically asks the county to redirect 20% of the SURTAX district part of the SURTAX infrastructure for the acquisition and rental program, but the money has already been promised to fix the district roads, which has led to tension on Dece.

Several commissioners have expressed concerns about transferring money from one pool to another.
