The senior Alabama Nives scored 31 points to raise a 68-45 win over Foothill on Friday night in the South Championship Girls Championship for Girls 4A Girls.
Senior Laila Gines played a huge second half for Longhorns, which lost in the regional championship last season.
Heritage coach Tiffany Richardson said he reminded his players of last year’s loss.
“I had a lost loss from the team in the first round, but I had to inform them that (Foothill) was seeking revenge after defeating them in their building last year,” Richardson said.
Legacy (25-7) took control from the beginning, heading to 10-0 lead.
Foothill (14-13) could not understand the protection of the Legacy, the press with a full court and the 3-2 area in the half-bunch. Longhorns has forced more than 20 turnover, led by the five thefts of Jr. Ajali Williams.
NIVS led Longhorns, seed # 1 from Sky League, up to 26-15 people at a half time with 16 points, hitting four 3 indicatives.
Foothill, # 1 Desert League seed, made no adjustments to Noves halftime, which scored 11 points from the third quarter. Gines scored 12 in a quarter to give a lead to Longhorns 54-29.
The falcons hit four 3-indicatives in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Alexandra Crook led three 3-3-indicatives in the second half on the way to a match of 14 points.
For Richardson and Longhor, the victory was just the next step to the national championship. Legacy locked the seeds # 1 for the state tournament.
“Last year we went to Renault and came across (Bishop Manog),” Richardson said. “It was difficult, but this year getting down here, we hope we are worse and learned from it.”
No. 2S Loese 63, No. 2D Basic 49: In Legacy, the lions defeat the wolves in the game in third place to hit the third place south of the state tournament next week.
Losee (21-6) will face the inheritance in a state semi-final Friday at Valley at a time that will be determined. Main completed 16-10.
