LCU poised for strong season: 2nd in LSC expected, Grace Foster named player to watch – LCU Athletics

RICHARDSON, TX (October 21, 2024) – The Lone Star Conference has announced its 2024-25 women’s basketball preseason poll, in which Lubbock Christian University is projected to finish second. Poll results are determined by a panel of LSC head coaches, sports information directors and media representatives throughout the region. In addition, Grace Foster has been recognized as LCU’s Player to Watch this upcoming season.

The Lady Chaps return four starters (from last season) for the Nov. 2 season opener in Canyon, Texas (D2CCA Women’s Basketball Tip-Off Classic) against Kutztown. They are ranked second in the LSC behind Texas Woman’s. LCU receives three first-place votes. This is the third straight season (2019-2020 was LCU’s first season in the LSC) that LCU was not picked to win the LSC, and also their third straight season competing at the NCAA Division II level in which they were not picked in the preseason to win their respective conference (2014-2015 was their first season eligible for the conference preseason poll). LCU was preseason picked to finish fourth last season and ended up atop the Western Division (12-2 in the Western Division) and claimed an appearance in the NCAA South Central Regional with a 22-10 overall record (17-6 in the conference).

The 2024-25 season marks Steve Gomezon the 22ndn.d season leading the Lady Chaparrals. The Lady Chaps have recorded 522 wins and 153 losses under his leadership, which includes three NCAA Division II National Championships and an NCAA Division II record 113 home game winning streak.

Foster is a two-time WBCA All-America selection and a CSC Academic All-America honoree. Last season’s success saw her become a two-time all-region selection while also earning first-team All-Lone Star Conference and LSC Academic Player of the Year honors. The senior from Childress, Texas excelled in the classroom (has a 4.0 GPA in criminal justice) and on the hardwood, where she led LCU in scoring (16.4) and rebounding (6.7). Her 16.4 points per game ranked her third in the LSC and ninth in the region. Foster led the LSC in free throw percentage (88.9%, ninth nationally and third in the region) and also ranked in the LSC’s top 10 in field goal percentage (46.8%, sixth), eighth in rebounds in defense per game (6.1), seventh in minutes per game (33.8) and sixth in three-pointers per game (1.7). Foster has 1,310 career points and 618 career rebounds.
