LCSO partnered with local business to hire the recently released prison – WCTV

Tallahasee, Florida (WCTV) – Leon County Sheriff’s service seeks to increase the number of businesses recently released from prison.

The Sheriff’s service said this partnership with the business is going a long way for the community. LCSO said that if prisoners find a job after release, it would allow them to support themselves and reduce recidivism.

Brad Yanovski, director of re -entry programs and prisoners for LCSO, said they currently have about 40 businesses who have promised to help hire people with criminal records. Yanovski said they are striving to increase this number significantly in order to be more resource for people who need a second chance.

Although it depends on the employer what type of offenders hire, Yanovski said that building this connection is a starting point for someone who wants to return on the road.

“The prisoners’ population has this idea or that idea that” no one will hire me. ” It is an opportunity for employers to simply review or simply consider their hiring practices and just open their doors to people who are looking for a second chance, “Yanovski said.

Yanovski said that getting a job is crucial to people who enter the community again.

“If they can’t find a job, they can’t stand it and find another way to do it, and maybe that’s not the kind we want them to do,” Yanovski said.

To help expand its partnership, the Sheriff’s office hosts a business event from the second chance on February 20.

Yanovski said this is a way for local companies to hear from the sheriff and other business owners who have hired prisoners to help overcome some of the obstacles when trying to find a job.
