The Las Vegas Raiders have only had one winning season since 2017. During that span, the Raiders failed to win the AFC West, finishing third or worse in the division four times. On Sunday, Las Vegas will host the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, a division rival they have beaten just once since 2021. Despite being 9.5-point underdogs for Sunday’s tilt and playing well below the .500 mark on the season, many Las Vegas Raiders fans are ecstatic about the news surrounding a former franchise legend.
Earlier this week, the NFL Hall of Fame made cuts to the induction of “senior players” in the Class of 2025. Two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Jim Plunkett was among the 31 players who survived the cut. Plunkett, the 1981 Super Bowl Most Valuable Player, remains in consideration for the Hall of Fame, much to the delight of Las Vegas Raiders fans.
Las Vegas Raiders fans are ecstatic to follow Jim Plunkett news
According to Associated Press sports writer Josh Dubow:
Among the first #Kidnappers and #49ers who made the final 31 nominees for the Hall of Fame’s senior category:
Jim Plunkett
Roger Craig
Art Powell
Lester Hayes
Albert Lewis
Among the list of 31 remaining nominees are five players from the San Francisco Bay Area, led by longtime Oakland Raiders (now Las Vegas Raiders) quarterback Jim Plunkett. From 1979 to 1986, Plunkett quarterbacked the Raiders, winning two Super Bowls. Plunkett signed with the Raiders after unsuccessful stints with the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers and served as the backup quarterback until Dan Pastorini was injured in 1980. Plunkett led the Raiders to the Super Bowl, throwing a league-best seven touchdowns in the playoffs. The first overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft, Plunkett again led the AFC West club to a title in 1983.
One of only six players to win a Super Bowl and a Heisman Trophy Award, Plunkett also became the first minority to win a Super Bowl with the victory in 1980. Although his counting statistics leave a lot to be desired, Plunkett is also one of 13 quarterbacks , who have won multiple Super Bowls. With the announcement that Plunkett was closing in on the Hall of Fame, many Las Vegas Raiders fans were happy to hear that the franchise’s only two-time Super Bowl champion could reach the NFL’s most exclusive club:
If Eli Manning is in the Hall of Fame, Jim Plunkett damn well deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. π

#JimPlunket @AmyTrask #LesterHayes it should be pointless. Two time Super Bowl winning QB and two other game changers.

How is at least 70% of this roster not already in the Hall of Fame? Jim Plunkett? Roger Craig? Otis Anderson? Joe Jacoby? Most of this list should have been in the hall a long time ago! #NFLHallofFame https://t.co/iJBAAeZeix
