Laredo’s Wreaths Across America event set for December – KGNS

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – The City of Laredo will join the national Wreaths Across America campaign for the third year in a row this December to honor fallen veterans.

Lynette Mead, a strong supporter of the campaign, announced that the convoy will start from Harley Davidson at 418 Crossroads Loop at 7am on Saturday, December 14th. Anyone who wants to join the convoy can meet there. The group will travel to McPherson and head to the city and Catholic cemeteries to lay wreaths. The ceremony will begin around 9 or 10 am, depending on when the trucks arrive.

This year, Wreaths Across America will also be the grand marshal for the Christmas Parade, which will be held on the same day.

“It’s a busy day, but it’s going to be wonderful,” Mead said. “We’ll have the ceremony and then join the parade.”

Mead mentioned that they still need wreath donations to reach their goal, saying they are just over halfway there. Each wreath costs $17, and anyone who wants to donate can visit the campaign website or call Mead directly at 956-701-0354. Donations must be received by the end of November because the wreaths will be picked up soon after.

To raise more funds, Mead is hosting a bowling tournament at Pla-Mor, located at 2819 Bob Bullock Loop on November 24 at 3:00 p.m. Teams are welcome to sign up to support the cause and spend a fun day People can contact Mead to sign up.

“Kids can earn community service hours by helping lay wreaths, and I’m going to need everyone there this year since I’m going to have to run to the parade,” Mead said.

The Wreaths Across America event aims to honor veterans and remind the community of their sacrifice while spreading holiday cheer.
