Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – Dozens of people lost their personal belongings after a large -scale fire damage a storage facility in North Laredo on Sunday night, January 26th.
It was a scene of destruction and mixed emotions after a massive fire caused damage to the star storage facility located on 2110 Quail Creek Rd.
A victim that chose to remain anonymous mentioned what the scene looks like, noting: “Last night it seemed catastrophic, I thought everything was burned. The smoke cloud looked very sinister.
Another anonymous citizen added: “You feel helpless because you think your things will be saved, but you never imagine that an incident like this will happen.”
On Monday morning, January 27, community members, who used one of more than 50 units, came to the place to see if their belongings were still intact.
“It’s so sad that they have these things, and I even see that there are cars and boats and things they had there and are now damaged. It’s so sad that this had happened, “said Larendoan Josephine Escuvel.
Esquivel had used one of the storage units for approximately three years and came to check its items, but was rejected due to the investigation.
“It seems that my area where my storage is has not been damaged, but I don’t know. I called and they did not give me any information, they said they still had no information due to the damage assessment, so I don’t know, “Esquivel added.
As many continued to seek answers, fire department officials in Laredo, including Chief Guillermo Hurd, were seen passing through the ruins and touring the facility for all kinds of clues for what the fire began.
According to Sebastian Valerro with LFD, “Our alarm department is investigating the cause and the exact number of damaged units.”
Despite the thousands of dollars damage, Valerro says no one has been injured. Adding: “It’s a pity that many people were affected by this fire. Fortunately, no one has suffered injuries because of the fire. “
While Esquivel and several others are waiting for the result, she is involved in those who have lost momentary that they can never return.
“I feel so sad that these people had to lose these things and their belongings, and especially special documents and similar things,” she said.
According to the district records, the storage facility has been quite new and has only existed for three years.
