Laredo Veterans Hold Ceremony to Honor Fallen Comrade – KGNS

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – A group of veterans from American Legion Post 59 gathered Thursday, Oct. 24 to honor one of their own, Corporal Reynaldo Reyna Jr., who passed away 41 years ago. The ceremony took place at his widow’s home in downtown Laredo.

Reyna, who fought in the Korean War, served in the Army and the Army National Guard. His widow recently reached out to the American Legion for help in honoring her late husband, and they responded with Folding the flag ceremony – a special way to honor those who have served in the US military.

Seven Post 59 veterans participated, folding the flag while telling the story behind each fold. There were tears, smiles and shared memories as they remembered their fallen brother.

“It’s a great honor for me because my house is modest, but this is very, very important to me, so I appreciate what you all did for me,” said Catalina Reyna, the widow.

Alberto Muñoz, commander of the honor guard at Post 59, added: “It’s something to be proud of because they served our country and our people.”

Prior to his death, Corporal Reyna served as a post commander and was involved with other military groups in Laredo and Webb County.

The Post 59 Honor Guard will also be part of a military funeral on Friday, October 25, continuing their work to honor those who have served.

American Legion Post 59 helps families of fallen veterans in need of support by offering its services free of charge, although donations are accepted.
