Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – returned to the business for the Municipal Council of Laredo, as they held their first meeting of the year tonight, January 28.
Among the many topics is a new ordinance that would ban people from parking on a public street within eight feet of a mailbox.
This is a problem that affects other areas of the city, as mentioned by the Council for District 6, Tyler King. Whoever mentioned: “This has happened with other parts of the city where high school students are. There is no parking for them or know that they do not have a license or insurance, and somehow penetrate the whole neighborhood. Of course, we support our children and get to school, but at the same time they cannot block alleys and mailboxes. “
King says that although he thinks this measure will help relieve the problem, they are open to other alternatives. Adding: “We are looking at a permit program for the residents of this neighborhood to have a parking authorization. Only they can park in front of their house, this is another option. This is something that has been done in other parts of the city related to Martin and a united high school, so there are some other ideas. We just jump straight into this. “
Larendo’s city lawyer, Doan Zone Nguyen says this regulation would be of great benefit to law enforcement agencies as it would give them full authority to defend their authority if any cars block the mailboxes.
“At the moment, they have authority in a discretionary sense, but this will deal directly with the question of blocking your mailbox. There are already regulations for charging and towing, but this will deal directly with those cases where the car blocks the mailbox, “Nguyen said.
In order for the ordinance to take effect, it will have to return to the Council for another vote and public contribution. The Laredo City Council decided to pay the conversation for the next meeting.
