Stephenville, Texas (January 26, 2025) – The Lubbock Christian University women’s tennis team opened its spring schedule with three exhibition matches at the Tarleton Tennis Facility over the weekend. The Lady Chaps earned a dominant 7-0 sweep over Collin College, but fell to NCAA Division I programs New Mexico State (4-3) and host Tarleton State (6-1) in their other contests.
Friday, LCU opened the day against New Mexico State, losing the game 4-3 in a competitive game. An excellent performance came in singles play where Anastasia Opolska rallied for 4-6, 6-4, [10-8] wins at number 2 and Maya Adler secured 3-6, 6-2, [10-1] win at number 5. Axel Jacquemin also won in two sets, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. Despite a strong effort, New Mexico State won the doubles point and edged the Lady Chaps in the final score.
LCU bounced back later in the day with a convincing 7-0 win over Collin College. The Lady Chaps dominated throughout, winning five of six singles matches in straight sets. Andrea De Bernardo (#1) and Opolska (#2) led the charge with emphatic wins in both singles and doubles. The couples De Bernardo and Jacquemin (6-2) and Opolska and AnaMaria Zorich (6-1) helped win the doubles point early in the match.
Saturday’s game against host Tarleton State saw LCU face a tough challenge, falling 6-1. Oshini Herat provided the only point for the Lady Chaps, rallying at No. 5 singles for a 6-4, 2-6, [10-7] victory. The Texans won in doubles and made it five straight in singles to close out the weekend.
The Lady Chaps take a short break until they return to the regular season on Friday, Feb. 7 in Kearney, Neb. vs. Concordia (Neb.). LCU, receiving votes in the national top 25 poll, posted a 3-0 record in the spring regular season.
