Kyron Drones injury update: Brent Pry looks serious for Virginia Tech QB – On3.com

The Virginia Tech Hokies were without a starting point guard Kyron Drones for their loss of Syracuse after missing the game due to injury.

After the game the head coach Brent Pry addressed the severity of the injury, calling it an everyday problem. However, he made it clear that he had no intention of talking at length about the injury.

“We’ll see,” Brent Pry said. “It’s day by day. I won’t talk about it.”

Virginia Tech was launched in place of Kyron Drones Colin Schley. A transfer who spent time at Kent State and UCLASchley is a fifth-year player and comes with more experience than most backup quarterbacks. He was solid for the Hokies, completing 16 of 24 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 54 yards and another touchdown. Still, it wasn’t enough to overcome Syracuse in overtime.

The news that the Drones would not be able to play came as somewhat of a surprise and was not announced until just before the game.

At halftime of the Syracuse loss, Brent Pry shared what he saw from Colin Schley.

“Yeah, I thought he played the game well. I thought he played fast. We operated the offense,” Brent Pry said. “He probably would have liked to return a throw, but he did a good job. He made some plays and controlled the game.”

Aside from Kyron Drones’ injury, Virginia Tech was also without a running back Bhaishul Tuten. One of the team’s best offensive weapons all season has been Tuten, and while he did dress for the game, he didn’t actually play with it for the Hokies.

With the loss, Virginia Tech falls to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in ACC play this season. With three games remaining and six teams ahead of the Hokies in the standings, including two undefeated teams, it appears that an appearance in the ACC Championships Game may be out of reach. However, reaching a bowl game is only one win away. If they were to make a bowl, then it would be Virginia Tech’s second in as many seasons.

On top of that, after going 7-6 last season, including a bowl win, improving that record is still a possibility. In order to do this, it would certainly be helpful to be as healthy as possible moving forward. That means getting Kyron Drones and Bhayshul Tuten back into the backfield ahead of next week’s game against Clemson Tigers.
