Kyrie Irving accidentally hit a toddler sitting courtside with the ball during a game against the Boston Celtics as the Dallas Mavericks hosted Dallas on Saturday night. Sometime in the final few minutes of the second quarter, Irving tried to feed the ball to PJ Washington, who was open for a corner three. Unfortunately, his miss missed its target and instead hit the fan sitting near PJ.
After the ball hits the fan, the toddler’s left eye bleeds. Irving checked the young fan. Fans on social media shared their thoughts on the event. Here are some reactions on X, formerly Twitter:
“Kyrie better give that kid a signed jersey.”

“No worries you get court season tickets. For life.”
Here are other x fan reactions:
“Aw man worst possible luck. Hope he gets signed merch and fresh tickets for next time,” said one.
“This is so unfortunate,” tweeted one.
“Mavs about to give this kid free tickets as compensation,” said another.
“On the bright side, he’s on his way to meet his favorite player after the game,” said one.
Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic cut themselves from the All-Star Starters
The 2025 NBA All-Star starters were announced Thursday. Unfortunately for Dallas Mavericks fans, their star players Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic did not make the starting lineup for the Western Conference. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Stephen Curry had more fan votes than the Mavericks stars.
Regardless, if they had more votes, Irving and Doncic would be deserving members of the starting lineup. Looking at Kyrie’s numbers, they are slightly better than Curry’s. Kai is averaging 24.5 points, 4.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. As for Steph, he’s putting up 22.6 ppg, 6.3 APG, 4.9 RPG and 1.1 SPG.
As for Doncic, he has yet to return to the hardwood after suffering a calf strain. Before his injury, Luca averaged 28.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 7.8 apg and 2.0 spg. Both Mavericks guards have undoubtedly proven their worth as All-Stars.
The good news is that it’s not too late for Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, as the NBA has yet to announce the All-Star reserves. The announcement will be made on January 30.
