CANYON, Texas – Kutztown women’s basketball wrapped up its two-game two-day road trip in Canyon, Texas, dropping a non-conference game to perennial power Lubbock Christian 64-41 on Saturday afternoon at the D2CCA Tipoff Classic at West Texas A&M University.
The Golden Bears (0-2 overall) were put in a hole early on, trailing 14-2 after the first quarter and then couldn’t claw their way out. KU trailed 31-17 at halftime and 46-27 after three quarters.
Olivia Smelas (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) filled the stat sheet, finishing as the only Golden Bear in double figures with 10 points and had seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. Jess Aponick (Philadelphia, PA/Germantown Academy) just missed double figures as the freshman scored nine points in 15 minutes of action. Bella Arcuri (Fallsington, PA/Pennsbury) collected five points and Leila Hurley (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe), Taylor Gurish (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) and Kitty Randa (Horsham, PA/Hatborough-Horsham) all scored three points. Naya Pulliam (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth), Abby Hearn (Lewis, Del./Cape Henlopen), Anaya Price (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy) and Alexa Windush finished with two points each.
Kutztown will be back in action next weekend at the CIAA/PSAC Challenge in Shippensburg. KU will face Lincoln on Friday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m., then play Fayetteville State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
