[1] Santa Fe High School head football coach placed on leave amid abuse investigation – Santa Fe High School head football coach Andrew Martinez was placed on administrative leave Thursday night amid an abuse investigation. A spokesperson for Santa Fe Public Schools confirmed that Martinez will be on leave for the rest of the season. The spokesperson also confirmed that several students from the football team have since been suspended. Santa Fe police are still investigating.
[2] Roswell City Council Approves State of Emergency Declaration to Aid Recovery Efforts – The City of Roswell continues to rebuild after extensive flooding in the area. As of now, school is expected to resume on Monday. City Hall and the airport are open again, but the zoo is still closed. Mayor Tim Jennings says more than 100 businesses have been affected and that the Civic Center and museum will likely remain closed until next year. On Thursday, the Roswell City Council approved an emergency declaration that allows the city to request funding and resources from the state to cover repairs and other emergency costs.
[3] Cooler Temperatures Before Warm Up – A cold front will bring slightly cooler air on Friday. Another warm-up this weekend will bring more record-breaking heat Sunday and Monday. Warming begins again Saturday as a record-strength high pressure area continues to grow over northern Mexico. We’ll see record and near-record high temperatures again Sunday and Monday across parts of New Mexico as dry weather also continues.
[4] New Cantina Opens at Ladera Golf Course Clubhouse – Ladera Golf Course’s new cantina is officially open. The city of Albuquerque says the project began about eight months ago. The new additions create a shaded bar area in the clubhouse connecting to the outdoor courtyard and banquet hall. The project was financed by GO bonds and state capital expenditures.
[5] New Mexico Film Authority Says Busy Production Year Coming Despite Holiday Delay – The state’s film and television industry is celebrating a milestone of more than a billion dollars in economic impact this year. New infrastructure and competitive financial incentives play a role in what attracts filmmakers to New Mexico. Currently, 15 productions are being shot in the state.
