Here it is again. We found out here last month The hayride that former Republican state representative Scott McKnight has thrown his support behind Ted James, the far-left Democratic candidate for mayor-president of East Baton Rouge. EBR voters received text messages from the Ted James campaign highlighting McKnight’s subversive support for James.
In the words of the late Billy Mays, “But wait, there’s more!” Now we have another RINO politician endorsing Ted James for mayor-president of East Baton Rouge. This time it’s none other than the RINO State Rep Paula Davis.
Many Baton Rouge residents received the following text message from the Ted James campaign endorsing Paula Davis:
“This is Paula Davis, State Representative for District 69. I have served in the Legislature since 2015, have been recognized as a LABI All-Star for my support of our business community, and have earned a 97% lifetime rating from Louisiana Right to Life. I am a conservative Republican and , , for mayor-president of the EBR …”
With friends like these, who needs enemies?
Anyone who has read The hayride has known for the past five years that Paula Davis has no conservative history to build on. In 2018, Congressman Davis proposed a $400+ million sales tax increase in Louisiana after Governor Edwards signed a temporary sales tax increase in 2016. Then in 2020, Davis teamed up with the Legislative Black Caucus, to to elect RINO Clay Schexnayder as Speaker of the Los Angeles House. Three years later, she also voted to remove the “spending cap” during the 2023 legislative session, allowing the Legislature to blow even more taxpayer dollars
Earlier this year, Paula Davis authored a LABI-backed bill (HB 728) that originally would have allowed convicted felons to receive free, taxpayer-funded college tuition. Fortunately, State Senator Blake Miguez amended the bill to prevent violent criminals from accessing our tax dollars under this bill.
Apparently, Paula Davis has not achieved any real victories for conservative voters in her district. Yet now she’s muddying the waters in East Baton Rouge’s mayoral-presidential election by endorsing a far-left Democratic candidate against a viable Republican.
“… served with Ted. He was always willing to listen to different points of view and was always honest. . , .
We desperately need a Mayor-President who will simply get the job done. Put the holes above the policy. A person who will get at-risk kids into Head Start, not leave 400 spots empty. A person who will work with our sheriff and our business community, with the Metro Council and with the leaders of Baker, Central, St. George & Zachary.
FuturePac, affiliated with the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, just released a poll showing Ted leading Mayor Broome.
If Broome goes up against the top Republican, she wins 50-38%.
Broome defeated Bodie White and Steve Carter, both experienced candidates, and will easily beat an opponent who hasn’t voted in 8 years and has struggled to show a basic understanding of the challenges we face.
Our economy fell from #21 to #155. Our kill rate is up 22% THIS YEAR.
I know I’m asking you to do something different.

Paula Davis (R-Baton Rouge)
Endorsed and paid for by the Ted James campaign.”
There is a lot to unpack in this wildly inaccurate message. First, let’s note that Ted James is not some kind of “bipartisan” candidate. In 2019, he co-chaired Kamala Harris’ Louisiana presidential campaign during her unsuccessful bid for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. Then in 2022, James endorsed the far-left US Senate candidate and marijuana enthusiast Gary Chambers. What’s more, Ted James served under the Biden regime as the SBA’s Region 6 administrator.
Just a quick look at Ted James’ Twitter/X account completely debunks the absurd notion that he “works with Democrats and Republicans.” James has apparently made some inflammatory remarks about Republicans and white people on public platforms. However, we still see RINOs endorsing the guy for elected office.
Before we go any further, let’s go back to the Paula Davis-endorsed Ted James campaign message. Toward the end of her announcement, Paula Davis cited a poll and argued that no Republican candidate has a runoff chance against incumbent Sharon West-Broom.
A simple breakdown of this election shows that the top Republican candidate, Sid Edwards, has a solid chance of both running and winning a runoff election for EBR Mayor-President.
Also, the overall early voting results in the East Baton Rouge area are not looking good so far for top Democratic candidates Sharon Weston-Broom and Ted James. Republicans in the parish vote at much higher rates than Democratic-leaning districts.
Even last year, a majority of East Baton Rouge Parish voters chose the Republican candidates in all three statewide races for secretary of state, superintendent and treasurer. So, let’s not act like Republicans no longer exist in Baton Rouge
Overall, the RINOs who have endorsed Ted James for Mayor-President are setting a dangerous precedent that deserves swift punishment. Through their endorsements, Scott McKnight and Paula Davis are showing future Republicans that it’s okay to betray conservative voters by making deals with their political opposition.
Fortunately, there is at least one key Republican official in Louisiana who is willing to criticize the GOP politicians for their duplicity. Congressman Clay Higgins posted this exact post on twitter/X earlier this week.
Paula Davis’s recent endorsement of Ted James is unwarranted, and the GOP censure is an appropriate response to her decision.
East Baton Rouge Parish Republicans actually have a viable candidate on the ballot, and his name is Sid Edwards. We don’t have to compromise our values by voting for a problematic politician like Ted James who supports the Biden-Harris regime. Let’s stand with real Republicans in this important mayoral election.
