The group reached the top to strengthen the hospital’s call to transform their front entrance

More than 180,000 pounds were collected for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital after a group of 28 people climbed to Mount Kilimanjaro.

He suffered a lot of altitude, said Mike Weaver, who had the idea before the whole group reached the top in Tanzania.

The money will go to the hospital’s appeal of 3 million pounds to transform its front entrance to help reduce the fear of 100,000 sick children treated at the site every year.

G -N Wever said everyone “supports everyone” and appealed more money, as the goal is to get £ 200,000.

The group reached their ambition on Thursday, six days after the start of the trip, with the climber admitted that they all “knew it would be a challenge.”

But he added: “When I got to him, I think none of us expected how big a challenge it would be.”

Asked to put the scene before he reached the summit, he said it was “eight, nine -hour climbing from that moment” in the early hours of Thursday.

“So this is the equivalent of climbing Snowdon plus a few hundred meters after transitions in so many days.”

Mike Weaver (in the center wearing reflective glasses) said the team is “just shiny”

“I think after walking in my group for five hours, we asked” How long? “

“They said” three more hours to the top “and your heart is sinking because it’s dark, it’s tiring, lacks oxygen, and you just get up constantly.”

But he also says that every day the team “just approached and closer” and “this summit will live in the memories of all of us for a very, very long time.”

G -N Wever added, “It was such a wonderful experience. The team contacted together, so well.”

It was “such a huge challenge for all of us,” said G -N Wever

Much did not know each other in advance, and it was the most difficult challenge that one of them has taken, he said.

The participants had “such great letters from the children, from the hospital”.

“I just thought of all the children we do and know that many of the team did exactly the same, and that was all the motivation we needed to become this mountain.”

Asked if he would take on other projects in the near future, the Weaver replied: “I mentioned a few other ideas of people.

“But they quickly went in the opposite direction. So soon I will try to catch up with them!”
