Often a drab affair was illuminated by Spence of 30 yards, and he added a second before replacing Tyler Smith to put the cherry on the cake, as Bluebirds extended the winning league of visitors to nine matches.

Spence was the man most likely for Barrow, with the best two chances of the first half, which he put wide.

Gillingham was enjoying more than the game at the end of the first half, but Bradley Dack’s free kick was wide, and Asher Agbinone’s shot was easily rescued by goalkeeper Paul Pharman.

The murulichka was broken during a stunning way as Spence met the half-volume ball to fire an irresistible shot beyond Glen Morris.

MJ Williams approached the doubling of Barrow’s leading moments later, shooting from a similar distance, but Morris managed to focus his efforts.

Barrow then only secured a second win in nine games, when Spence rushed by six minutes left after excellent work to the left of Ben Jackson.

Smith ended the unfortunate afternoon of Gillingham as he turned to Robbie Gott’s pass in the fifth minute of stopping.
