Lexington, KY. (Wkyt) – Erica Gibson is a pilot, flight instructor and Gilbert Aviation owner.
Gilbert went to the University of East Kentucky and said the program was in line with makeup in the real world of the field.
“I was one of the few women in this program, so it was a very interesting dynamic and environment,” Gilbert said.
In 2022, the Federal Aviation Administration said women make up less than 20 percent of the aviation workforce.
“So I think in these lines in industries dominated by men who think women should not be there,” Gilbert said.
Gilbert said he understands why justice and inclusion initiatives were introduced
“Because there were women who wanted to fly and had experience that was not hired solely on the basis of their gender,” Gilbert said.
