Gilbert Reyes is involved in capturing moments.

As the owner and lead photographer of Greyes Photography in St. Charles, Reyes spent 13 years working with couples who seek to immortal their moments, both big and small.

Here he talks with Kane County Magazine about how couples who embark on their next heads can find the right photographer for them.

Kane County Magazine: How do you approach a couple who is interested in either an engagement session or a photo for their wedding?

Gilbert Rayes: When I meet a couple, I focus on getting to know them, details like how they met, their wedding vision and what photos are attracted. It’s all about making sure we’re right and I understand their style.

For engagement sessions, I offer tips for places and outfits to make sure they feel comfortable and confident. The goal is to build trust so that they feel calm and know that I am there to capture their unique story.

KC: What advice can you give to a couple when they start looking for a wedding photographer?

GR: My biggest advice is to make sure you get in touch with your photographer, someone whose style is equated with your vision and makes you feel comfortable. Also, always ask to see a complete wedding gallery they shot. This gives you a better idea of ​​their sequence and how they capture them all day.

KC: Any common pitfalls to avoid?

GR: Do not focus too much on the price above quality. Your wedding photos are lasting memories, so be sure to invest in someone you trust. And be cautious about deals that look too good to be true. They can come with hidden costs or restrictions.

KC: How do you feel that your photography sets you apart from others in the industry?

GR: What distinguishes my photography is my ability to capture natural images that do not feel too placed, even though I manage my customers. I focus on creating moments that feel real as long as I still maintain an artistic touch.

I am also attracted to dramatic, tuned photos, but this is something that I only include when the opportunity arises. I like to play with light, to treat it as my brush and shade like my canvas, which helps to add depth and emotion to the photos where I can really experiment.

KC: Are there any poses or ideas that you think are particularly attractive when taking pictures of a couple during an engagement or wedding photo?

GR: I like to capture natural, intimate moments during the engagement and wedding shoots. For engagements, I offer poses where the couple can interact – descend together or share a quiet moment. It is about highlighting their relationship in a calm way.

For weddings, I like to use the environment to create romantic, harmless pictures. Simple poses like a gentle dipping or look over the shoulder can really add to the feeling. Of course, I also remember to capture the traditional posing photos where the couple looks at the camera, as they are often a favorite for parents. The goal is to always reflect who are like a couple in an authentic, calm way.

KC: Is there anything you would advise couples when it comes to photos taken on the big day?

GR: My advice is not to redirect the day or focus too much on adaptation in each particular frame. Some of the best times are unplanned and real, like laughter or tear. In addition, do not stress for perfection – perceive the real moments and trust your photographer to capture them. Enjoy the day instead of worrying about every detail.

KC: Can you share some of the moments that you feel most to be captured?

GR: What I am really proud of is to capture the weddings of several members in the same family or numerous weddings from the same group of friends. It’s not just about a specific moment, it’s about being part of a chain of memories in their lives.

I am especially proud that even after more than a decade in business, I still shoot weddings related to couples I have worked with more than 10 years ago. It is amazing to see that their trip continues and be able to document these important stages for them and their families.
