Manhattan, Kansas – Kansas Chief Coach Jerem Tang has announced the addition of Tyrri Smith (Baton Rouge, Louisiana/Trinity Christian/Texas Tech/Memphis) as a transfer in the mid -season transfer (January 24).
Smith will not play this season. However, he will have the right to train and travel with the team. He will seek the release to play his last season of law at K-State in 2025-26. He was one of the students who played during the 2020-21 sports season and thus received an additional season of NCAA eligibility due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
A wing of 6 feet 8, 225 pounds, Smith arrives in K-State from Memphis, where he moved last out of season. However, he chose to enter the transfer portal before playing an official tiger match. He started his college career at Texas Tech in 2019-20 before spending 2 seasons in Oklahoma State (2021-23) and one season in SMU (2023-24). He received a red T-shirt for the 2019-20 season before playing for Red Raiders in 2020-21.
Smith scored more than 600 points in his college career from 128 games, connecting by 60 percent (245 out of 408) from the field to finish with 490 rebounds, 129 blocks, 59 taken balls and 46 assists. His best individual season came in 2023-24 while he was in SMU, scoring an average of 8.2 points at 58.4 percent (104 out of 178) firing with 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks while Play in 33 games with 13 holders.
A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Smith plays basketball in his high school for Trinity Christian in the Dallas-Form Worth region, winning the Tapps 5A year’s 2018 player. , 9 points and 12.3 rebounds and 3.0 blockades per match. He also received honors for the first team of all states and areas as a protected player of the year as a senior.
