RICHARDSON, TX (October 22, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University Justin Martinez was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performances during the week of Oct. 14-20.
Martinez had a remarkable offensive performance this week, contributing five points on two goals and an assist in two games. In LCU’s 3-1 loss to Sul Ross State, Martinez had an assist To Simon Jechey late goal. He followed up an impressive performance against Oklahoma Christian, scoring both goals in the first 11 minutes of LCU’s 2-0 win. It marked Martinez’s second multi-goal game of the season and his effort was key in securing LCU’s second straight road win. His five points for the week led the LSC. The freshman from Pampa, Texas was tied for second in the LSC in hits for the week with seven.
On the season, Martinez is tied for fourth in the LSC in scoring with 12 points. He has five goals (sixth in the LSC) and ranks fourth in the LSC in shots on goal per game (1.08) and eighth with 0.92 points per game.
The award is Martinez’s first of his career and he is the first champion to be recognized as Offensive Player of the Week this season. The Chaps are tied for third in the LSC standings as they have a 2-2-2 mark. LCU is 5-4-4 overall and they return to the field Wednesday at 7:30pm to host West Texas A&M for a Shooting Range Rivalry at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
