FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) – Attorney Jeff Lindsay has been sworn in as the 11th Judicial District Attorney, filling the void left by Linda Stanley after she was recently disbarred.
“Respect is earned. I can’t just say respect me. I have to show that we deserve the respect,” new District Attorney Jeff Lindsey tells KRDO13 Investigates that he knows he will have to work hard to restore faith in the criminal justice system for residents of Chaffee, Custer, Fremont and Park counties.
District Attorney Lindsey says he’ll start by re-laying the ground floor, training everyone in the DA’s office and beyond on the basic rules and ethics that prosecutors must follow. “We’re going to have practice [sessions] with all sheriff’s offices, all police departments, anyone who reports a case to us will go through detection training and we’ll make sure they understand that this detection has been a problem for the last three years and it needs to stop,” Lindsay said.
KRDO13’s investigations previously uncovered a pattern of DA Linda Stanley’s office not turning over evidence in a timely manner.
It eventually led to multiple cases being dismissed, including a murder case in which a man was accused of killing a baby.

“There’s an unusual amount of layoffs going on in this, and it’s going to stop,” said Attorney Lindsey. “Every dismissal represents a victim who does not receive justice.
Stanley is still appealing her disbarment while Fremont County commissioners consider getting back the taxpayer money she spent on her legal bills. Fremont County Commissioner Kevin Grantham tells KRDO13 Investigates they found over $100,000 in court bills Stanley charged the office.
“I think it’s most important for us to try on behalf of the taxpayers,” Grantham said.
