Wilmington – James Douglas Rhodes, 89 -year -old from Wilmington, North Carolina, died on February 7, 2025. He was born on September 1, 1935. In Supply, NC of Eulas Herman Rhodes and Margaret Ivie Hewett Rhodes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by death by his wife Arlin Rhodes; Son James (Jamie) D. Rhodes Jr.; Sister Fei Greg and brother Kenneth D. Rhodes.

Doug was a retired captain from the Wilmington Fire Service and played an important role in launching the EMS department of the fire department. He was also a veteran of the Air Force. He liked to work wood and be out. He also liked to make people laugh. If you met him for the first time, he would have you in stitches. He will be very missed, but they know that he is celebrating in heaven. He always said, “Don’t cry for me because I’ll be in a happy place.”

He survived his daughters: Margaret Eva Gines and husband Jerry of Rocky Point, North Carolina, Donna Rhodes Boland and husband Jeff of Wilmington and step -daughter Sabrina Pace of Wilmington; Eight grandchildren: Anthony Stone (Ginny), Jeremy Gines (Sarah), Josh Boland, Jake Boland (Ali), Katlin Pace, Christian Pace, Jackson Pace and Bella Pace; Seven great -grandchildren: Emila, Autumn and Ret Gines, Nick Stone, Ayla and Jazlin Roll and Sofia and Nova Boland and one brother, Herman Rhodes.

The funeral service will be held at 13:00 on February 13, 2025 at the Coabel Funeral Chapel with Pastor Michael Rhodes and Pastor Art Sauer. The funeral will follow in the Greenlawn Memorial Park.
