Jacobson’s lone goal leads Lady Chaps to UT Tyler – LCU Athletics shoutout

TYLER, Texas (November 1, 2024) – Made possible by a remarkable goalkeeping performance Megan Mirabal and a decisive goal from Claire JacobsonLubbock Christian University secured a 1-0 victory over UT Tyler on Friday at the Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex. The Lady Chaps extended their unbeaten streak to four games and posted back-to-back road wins in Lone Star Conference play.

The win raised Lubbock Christian’s record to 8-5-3 overall and 6-3-2 in Lone Star action. Additionally, the Lady Chaps moved into third place in the Lone Star Conference standings with the win. UT Tyler fell to 10-3-3 overall and 5-3-3 in the conference with the loss. In addition, the Patriots snapped their two-game winning streak and moved into fourth place in the Lone Star Conference standings.

How it happened

Lubbock Christian broke the scoreless tie when Claire Jacobson scored his third goal of the season in the 30th minute, assisted by Come on Spiller and Bonnie Miller.

Lubbock Christian and UT Tyler traded shots throughout the game with the teams recording a nearly identical number of shots with Lubbock Christian holding the slight edge 11-10.

As a result of strong defense and goaltending by both teams, neither team added another goal and the game ended in a 1-0 win for Lubbock Christian.

  • Megan Mirabal made three saves for the Lady Chaps on the Patriots’ 10 total shots, recording her second straight shutout.
  • Mirabal moves to 3-0-1 this season, the only Lady Chap goalie with an undefeated record.
  • Claire Jacobson scored her third goal, tying her for second on the team. It was Jacobson’s second game in which he recorded the only goal.
  • Come on Spiller recorded her seventh assist of the season, extending the team lead in her first season with the Lady Chaps.
  • Bonnie Miller also picked up an assist, bringing her season total to three.
  • Lubbock Christian extends its all-time series lead over UT Tyler to 4-1.
  • The Lady Chaps are now 4-3-1 in road games this season, with a 4-1-1 Lone Star Conference road record.

Lubbock Christian will have a quick turnaround as the Lady Chaps return to action Monday in San Angelo for a Lone Star Conference battle with Angelo State. The conference-leading Rambelles are undefeated in Lone Star Conference play, with a 7-0-3 record and 9-1-5 overall. In addition, Angelo State receives votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. Angelo State takes on Sul Ross State on Friday before welcoming the Lady Chaps to start the week. Lubbock Christian and Angelo State will meet in a monumental Lone Star Conference game on Monday at 7:00 PM from the LeGrand Soccer Complex.
