Investigators determine what caused a morning fire in Central, which moved 3; Pets did not survive – wafb

Baton Rouge, La. (WAFB) – Shortly before 2 this morning, the Central Fire Service received a fire at the Avenue House on the Birch River, outside the Hooper Road.

“On the route, the district commander could see flames from a few miles out, so he quickly struck a second alarm, which gave us additional engines on the route,” said the central fire captain, Andrew Templeton.

Everyone made it from the house, but unfortunately some of their pets did not.

Templeton says crews have done everything they can to save all four pets in the home, but only one has done it. Templeton says that by the arrival of crews, the flames have already swallowed the roof, which makes it difficult for crews to enter and make attempts to save animals.

“Usually it is a little more difficult for us to go inside if there is damage to the roof and the house is completely absorbed as it was,” Templeton explained.

Investigators with Baton Rouge arson said the fire was accidentally caused by a fire pit placed too close to the house.

“If you burn something around your house to stay warm or whatever the case, just make sure it is far enough that it doesn’t catch anything on fire,” added Templeton. “It is also difficult for us, because most people who work here in central, we live in central and know many people who live here. So, it’s hard to see, you know, someone loses their whole home like that. “

The alley cars were also completely consumed, and the Red Cross was connected by the family.
