Interview with President of Mayor Sid Edwards – The Reveille, the Student Gazette of LSU

On January 2, Sid Edwards took the oath to become president of Baton Rouge Mayor.

Edwards was a political outsider; The main coach for football and dean of students in Istrum High School and has never worked in politics before.

“I have to watch and think and said,” I just think we can do better, “Edwards said.

Entering office, Edwards encountered many problems, and in the forefront was the high degree of crime. After Edwards took office, he hired former law enforcement problems to help advise and coordinate efforts to reduce crime.

“I hired former police chief Jeff Ledf as an assistant CAO in my team and he is an expert at every level of public safety,” Edwards said. “He works tirelessly, I talk to the night, on some initiatives.”

Another problem that arises when graduates decide whether to stay in Baton Rouge is the road infrastructure. Intense traffic and holes have become regular annoyances in the city. Edwards says he wants to work with the state’s government to modernize infrastructure.

“We will spend a lot of time in Capitol,” Edwards said. “Working with our legislative body and our representative for cooperation on some of this.”

Edwards hopes his new initiatives will improve Baton Rouge and make LSU students want to stay in the Capitol area after graduation. Edwards has a message about LSU students as his office works to improve the city.

“Those who remain will be champions because it is a different era,” Edwards said.

“We are about to shake this city. There are some things we do and some initiative that will soon be released there. You will be in a different Baton blush and there will be no reason to leave. “
