We sat with Maurice Gilbert (top)and his production partner óskar eiriksson (L)Before their latest show, DocdocOpening in the UK at Churchill Theater, Bromley on February 5 (until the 15th) and then transferred to the Palace Theater, Sautend (February 18 – 22). Tickets here.

Since Docdoc is an international success in 37 countries, what attracted you to bring Laurent Bafi’s comedy to the United Kingdom audience and how do you think it will resonate here?

Morris Gilbert: It was because I saw that it was so successful around the world, especially in my productions in Mexico, Argentina and Israel. I thought that being so versatile, it was essential to present it to the UK audience and to share with them this extremely intelligent, comedy and moving piece of theater.

Óskar eiriksson: I was fortunate to see the show, by chance, when I visited my production partner Maurice in Mexico. Of course, the show was in Spanish, and although I am not saying a word, I was blown up by the physical comedy and energy of the show and judging by the brilliant reaction of the audience, I knew we should bring it to the UK … and finally, at the end, Here we are!

The play deals with topics on mental health and obsessive-compulsive disorders with humor. How do you balance the addressing of sensitive topics while maintaining the comedy tone?

Morris Gilbert: I believe that the best thing we can do is learn to laugh at ourselves. Laughter is often the best remedy and the team approaches these sensitive topics in a respectful but lightweight way. Being able to laugh at these challenges is the best form of empowerment.

Óskar eiriksson: Cliché like laughter that it is the best medicine, they are there for a reason, and given the whole weight of the world right now, I think of each other and, of course, laughs.

You have both produced emblematic works worldwide. How does Docdoc fit into your broader vision for bringing different and impactful productions in new markets?

Morris Gilbert: It is incredibly exciting to explore new territories and find fresh ways to communicate through theater. Connecting with local crops in this way not only enhances production, but enriches all participants.

Óskar eiriksson: I love the fact that when it comes to human state, Doc Doc is so very relaxing and touches everyone who sees it. For me, the show has no boundaries and to work in the theater internationally for years, this cheerful piece is the perfect fit.

The Premiere of the United Kingdom on Docdoc is in partnership with the charity charity of the United Kingdom No Panic. Can you tell us more about this cooperation and its importance for production?

Morris Gilbert: This collaboration was crucial to us because we know that those who suffer from OCD often identify themselves deeply with the characters in production and appreciate the vision of their experiences presented on the stage in such an intelligent way. Partnership with a mental health organization is a natural adaptation for this game; We did it in other countries where it was done, and it has always been a mutually beneficial agreement.

Óskar eiriksson: We are so pleased with the partnership! As a comedy with a serious content, we believe it is important to make it clear that problems are taken seriously as the show opens the minds and helps to heal through comedy.

What was your process of assembling such a talented creative team, including Ian Talbot as a director and famous cast, to guarantee the success of the play in his debut in the UK?

Morris Gilbert: When producing theater, you have to trust the process, and sometimes in fate. I did not know all the talented people who are now part of this creative team, but I believed that the play would attract the right personalities. The meeting with Ian Talbot was a dream come true, and our cast is absolutely brilliant. We looked for each other until we got together – Lenk was definitely on our side.

Óskar eiriksson: We are glad to have Ian with us. We clicked instantly and he is an absolute dream of working, and all of us with Debbie O’Brien as our casting director and Ian lead, we came to find this incredibly talented and fun cast – a perfect fit!
